The focus was on Plymouth this evening where riot police were trying to keep the peace between two rival protest groups. In the week since the Southport stabbings, which have fuelled far-right riots and anti-immigration demonstrations across the UK, almost 400 people have been arrested.
Police officers were injured during 'sustained violence' in Plymouth last night.Devon and Cornwall Police said six arrests were made in after 'several officers' suffered minor injuries and two members of the public were taken to hospital.Bricks and fireworks were launched towards officers who had attempted to keep rival demonstrations apart in the Devon port city.
'Asked how difficult it was to police the protest, he added: 'It's off the scale today. With the resources we've got, it's difficult.'Meanwhile, rioters took to Belfast's streets again, with footage showing petrol bombs and missiles being thrown at police. The Police Service of Northern Ireland warned the public to stay away from certain areas of the city as they dealt with public disorder and violence.
