Anti-vaccination activists, a vocal fringe who oppose inoculations, have organized protests in the wake of the current crisis. They believe, contrary to scientific evidence, that ingredients in a vaccine can cause harm to the body.

Unsubstantiated conspiracy theories about a pharmaceutical industry plot or Microsoft founder Bill Gates using the vaccine to implant tracking devices have also gained traction during the outbreak. In a YouGov survey in late June, one in six U.K. respondents said they "definitely" or "probably" would not get vaccinated for Covid-19 should a vaccine become available.
