Poland's foreign ministry has summoned the Ukrainian ambassador over comments made by Volodymyr Zelenskyy - as it is reported that Russian losses have 'significantly increased' in western Zaporizhzhia in recent days.
Top Russian diplomat Sergey Lavrov has had his turn taking the floor at the UN Security Council meeting in New York.
Some media reports claimed he was being treated in hospital after pictures of cars purportedly showing vehicles with Chechen licence plates at a hospital in Moscow circulated on Russian Telegram channels. Sky News was unable to verify when this video was filmed. Kadyrov is a close ally of Vladimir Putin and commands extensive military forces in Chechnya.
He was first to address a Security Council meeting in New York today that was attended by Sergey Lavrov, Russia's foreign minister. He said that member states providing his country with weapons and other aid is"helping to defend the UN charter", as Ukraine is exercising its right to self-defence. The protesters, many young, gathered on Republic Square in the heart of Yerevan. Meanwhile, several trucks carrying Armenian troops were also seen in the centre of the capital.
"We need Armenia to join up with Artsakh and fight," said Sargsyan, who was born in Karabakh's capital, known to Armenians as Stepanakert and to Azeris as Khankendi. Despite these two posts on Telegram, he, nor the Russian navy nor ministry of defence has acknowledged a Ukrainian attack - which remains unverified. A man who allegedly extorted families of fallen Ukrainian soldiers has been arrested by security services .
"The head of Russian diplomacy is expected to hold a number of bilateral meetings and take part in a meeting of the UN Security Council on Ukraine, where Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also intends to speak," Russian state news agencyThe Security Council meeting is set to begin at 11:00am local time in New York time .Ukraine's foreign ministry has called for calmer heads over the escalating trade row that has erupted between Kyiv and Warsaw.
