'Other than Ukraine, no other country has felt the impact of Putin's evil war than Moldova' Foreign sec James Cleverly is meeting with Moldovan foreign minister Nicu Popescu today after the UK agreed to give the country £10m to fight Russian influence

'We have never faced such a dangerous and challenging time for European security,' Cleverly says

"I think it is fair to say that other than Ukraine itself, perhaps no other country has felt the impact of Putin's evil war more deeply than yours. Political coordinator Fergus Eckersley at times spoke in Russian to appeal to ordinary Russians, and accused the Kremlin of ruining its country's reputation.

There are no signs Ukrainian troops are ready to withdraw from Bakhmut and the situation is"difficult" there, the Russian-installed leader of Ukraine's Donetsk region has said. Mr Assad is a close ally of Vladimir Putin thanks to Russia's intervention in the Syrian Civil War in 2015 which helped tip the balance in the Syrian president's favour. The Syrian president, who met Mr Putin in the Kremlin yesterday, has supported Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

"I say that these are Russian territories, and even if the war had not happened, these are historically Russian territories," he told the RIA news agency. An espionage network operating in Poland has been broken up by the country's security services, Poland's defence minister has said. Mr Blaszczak declined to comment further on the case and said more details would be announced by interior minister MariuszThe report said the six people arrested were from countries to the east of Poland and were working for Russian intelligence.

The US-based thinktank said the Wagner Group's offensive on Bakhmut appears to be"nearing culmination" as it deals with a reported lack of ammunition. "It therefore is likely that Wagner's offensive on Bakhmut is increasingly nearing culmination," it said. The ISW said Russia would have the capability to commit more reserves as it has seen elements of Russian airborne regiments in and around Bakhmut that"do not seem to be heavily committed to fighting at the moment".

The ISW said this was consistent with its own analysis, adding Russia's offensive in the eastern Luhansk area - part of Ukraine's Donbas region -"is likely nearing culmination, if it has not already culminated". But with a public feud continuing between Wagner and Russia's Ministry of Defence, the UK's MoD said there is a"realistic possibility" the drive to capture Vuhledar is partially because the Kremlin"wants its own success to compete with Wagner's achievements".

He said this is the equivalent of"over 800 Russian personnel killed or wounded for each kilometre gained, the vast majority of them Wagner fighters".
