Under African skies: Adventure on a Serengeti safari, Seychelles beaches and whirlwind South Africa tour
Our tour group immediately took a sassy shine to P.J. . We quickly checked off the Big Five, minus one . We gasped when a leopard leaped across a tree with its half-eaten kill as a hyena paced just below. We sat rapt while a mama cheetah chased an antelope at full speed. We watched as a large herd of Cape buffalo made its way across the prairie then wisely chose to back the train up after sensing a pride of lions within striking distance.

You can, and should, make sure you visit the sanctuary during afternoon feeding hours to learn more about the animals from one of the on-site conservationists. If you bump into a 120-year-old friendly fella named George, scratch his neck and give him an extra batch of leaves to chow on for me.American travelers often overlook Johannesburg when visiting South Africa, in favor of more touristy Cape Town.
