Nick Beagley, 47, was out walking her dog Murphy in the Craigentinny area of the city when she came across the animal waddling down the stairwell.
This is the bizarre moment when a badger was spotted casually walking down a set of stairs at a block of tenement flats in Edinburgh.
Nick said she was left stunned by the unusual sight. She told Edinburgh Live: "As I was coming along the lane I could see something lying halfway up the stairs. "I see them occasionally around my street when I take Murphy out at around 10pm, they stand their ground for a few seconds then scurry off into different gardens.
Some studies have been carried out about urban badgers but, unlike foxes, little is known about them. Gardens can be used if they have dug their sett there and could pass through gardens when they are foraging.
