The teachers union, EIS, has urged Jenny Gilruth to do something about the problem.
Teachers’ leaders are demanding “urgent action” from the Scottish Government to tackle classroom violence, telling Education Secretary Jenny Gilruth it is an “increasing health and is becoming a safety risk” for school staff.
“But we need to see concrete intervention in the form of additional resources to support young people and teachers in the classroom and we need to see that support arrive urgently.” Ms Bradley said: “The majority of teachers in Scotland are currently working the equivalent of a day a week extra unpaid every single week. But 2023 is nearly over and teachers are still waiting for the 2021 manifesto promise to be kept, for their working conditions to more closely resemble their counterparts in the rest of the OECD.
