United Utilities to host 'drop in' sessions for Fylde residents after sewage leak led to two week 'no swim' warning
United Utilities is set to host a number of 'drop in' sessions with Fylde residents after a fractured waste pipe led to a coast-wide 'no swim' warning last month.
The first two drop in events are scheduled to take place at Cleveleys Community Centre on Wednesday 5 July between 4pm – 7pm and Friday 7 July, 11am – 3pm. Since 11 June, teams from United Utilities and contractors from across Europe have been working around the clock to fix a pipe that takes treated water from Fleetwood treatment works out to sea.Whilst repairs remain ongoing with the original pipe, a two kilometre bypass has been fitted to allow treated water to continue flowing out to sea.
Mark Garth, Wastewater Director for United Utilities, said: “We understand the impact this incident has had on the Fylde Coast communities with the closing of bathing waters and tankers on the road and we are very sorry for the inconvenience it has caused.
