One clip released by Cheshire Police shows Letby’s first police interview where she discussed 'a rise' in the mortality rate on the unit
Video footage released by police shows the moment Lucy Letby was arrested for the first time and her police interview.
The initial clip, taken from a police body camera, shows officers arriving at Letby’s home in Cheshire on 3 July, 2018. Detectives arrive at Letby’s door, and she confirms her identity before officers make their way inside. “They told me there had been a lot more deaths and I’d been linked as someone who had been there for a lot of them,” Letby told the interviewing officer. When asked if she could elaborate, Letby added: “I think we’d all just noticed as a team in general, the nursing staff, that this was a rise compared to previous years.”
The jury heard evidence from experts called by the prosecution who claim there is no other explanation as to what happened. “She recalls Lucy Letby attempting to reassure her that the blood was due to the nasogastric tube irritating his throat,” said Mr Johnson.Letby told Child E’s mother that a senior doctor would come to review her son before urging her to return to the postnatal ward, the trial heard.
