Mercyhurst University said they are investigating the incident Saturday night at local bar that was recorded by a surveillance camera, unbeknownst to the men.
A Pa. university is investigating an incident where a student athlete was recorded on a bar’s surveillance camera pushing a woman’s wheelchair down the stairs while she was away from it using the restroom.and it’s been shared more than 12,000 times, with thousands of comments. The video was timestamped at 11:38 p.m. Saturday March 11. She said the suspect was a men’s hockey team player from Mercyhurst, a private Catholic college located in Erie.
The video showed three men walking up the stairs at a bar where the restrooms are located downstairs. The men notice a wheelchair sitting unattended at the top of the stairs. One of the men walks away then one of the remaining men, wearing a white baseball hat on backwards, sits in the chair and starts to try to wheel it out of the stairwell. But the wheels are locked. He then stands up and the other man puts his hands on it, positioning it toward the top of the stairs.
An official with the Erie Police Department told PennLive they received a report of the incident and were starting an investigation.started an online fundraiser One person who commented on the video said they use a wheelchair and it’s their biggest fear when they have to leave it unattended. Wheelchairs are expensive, critical to their mobility and can take months to replace if they need customizations or have to go through insurance or red tape.
