I think it was as we serenely sailed towards the neat port of Ibiza Old Town while sipping champagne and dabbing the suncream from our foreheads that the conversion was complete.
We opted for the latter and thus found ourselves disappearing into the clifftops of an ancient Greek settlement called Eze, beautifully restored and with incredible views down to the coastline below. The following morning we were up bright and breezy for a closer look at Palma’s winding streets which lead you to Gothic churches and scenic squares. Its aforementioned central cathedral, the Cathedral of Santa Maria of Palma is the must-see landmark. The main drag, Passeig del Born, gives way to side streets with shops and art galleries while the nearby ex-fisherman village Santa Catalina is the city’s foodie quarter with up-and-coming bars and cute cafes.
However, good times and memories to last a lifetime don’t wait forever - nor does your cruise ship docked in the harbour - so it was on to the next stop we went. Certainly the more sedate approach is the one we went for - our days of Beach Clubs and raving to Calvin Harris or Tiesto are behind us - and the island’s capital provided everything we needed by way of views and relaxation.Valiant Lady is the latest of Virgin Voyages’ new generation of ships and entered service in 2021. She features 17 decks, 20 restaurants, a dozen bars and no children.Exhibit A: the food. In fact, you won’t look at or think about dining on a cruise ship in the same way again.
