Nature research paper: Viruses inhibit TIR gcADPR signaling to overcome bacterial defense

We are providing an unedited version of this manuscript to give early access to its findings. Before final publication, the manuscript will undergo further editing. Please note there may be errors present which affect the content, and all legal disclaimers apply. The Toll/interleukin-1 receptor domain is a key component of immune receptors that identify pathogen invasion in bacteria, plants, and animals.

We identified a large family of phage-encoded proteins, denoted here Thoeris anti-defense 1 , that inhibit Thoeris immunity. We found that Tad1 proteins are “sponges” that bind and sequester the immune signaling molecule produced by TIR-domain proteins, thus decoupling phage sensing from immune effector activation and rendering Thoeris inactive.

Excitonic Bloch–Siegert shift in CsPbI3 perovskite quantum dots - Nature CommunicationsExcitonic Bloch–Siegert shift in CsPbI3 perovskite quantum dots - Nature CommunicationsObservation of a Bloch-Siegert shift has remained elusive. Here, Wu et al, reports spin-selective Bloch-Siegert shift in lead halide perovskite quantum dots, and highlights the importance of many-body interactions in correctly modeling the shift.
