The Humane Society for Hamilton County is featuring three dogs and two cats looking for forever homes this week.
The two claim they were threatened with termination for violating IACS policies after speaking negatively on conditions at the shelter.are suing the agency for allegedly threatening them with termination if they speak out negatively about conditions at the shelter.
Elaine Thiel and Mianna Ruiz claim the"animals often live in crowded, substandard conditions and, far too often, do not leave the shelter alive." The two claim dogs are often kept in temporary crates lining the shelter's hallways and that the number of dogs making it out of the shelter alive is"depressingly low."
The suit also claims"the shelter—and, more importantly, the animals housed at the shelter—also suffers from mismanagement and from the absence of a long-term plan to end the perpetual crises facing the shelter." The two said they, along with 95 other past or present employees and volunteers at IACS, signed a letter concerning the"crisis at IACS" and sent it to the mayor's office, City-County Council and members of the IACS's advisory board, among others.Both claim leadership at IACS then threatened to terminate their work as volunteers at the shelter for violating the IACS volunteer code of conduct and social media policy.
