Five retailers have tightened open carry policies this month.
All state that they ask customers to refrain from openly carrying in their stores, as opposed to outright banning them from doing so.
In 2018, Kroger stopped selling firearms in its Fred Meyers stores and increased the purchasing age from 18 to 21 in response to the mass shooting that killed 17 at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. Walmart also raised its minimum purchasing age for firearms in 2018 and stopped selling assault-style rifles in 2015.
