While the partnership focuses on addressing rural healthcare shortages, the WCCD Dean of Health Sciences Kathy Buntin says it will expand beyond this. ”Not only will we be preparing new healthcare workers to fill job vacancies, but we will be offering programs that our current workers who may be serving in other roles can upgrade their skills, progress themselves through the healthcare arena and then go on to expand their job opportunities,” said Buntin.
Programs for practical nursing and mental health technicians will be offered at the center to make things easily accessible for those interested in a healthcare career. Currently, 85% of Dale Medical Center staff is comprised of Wallace graduates, according to Dale Medical chief executive officer Vernon Johnson.
