Target has announced that it will join Walmart in closing stores on Thanksgiving this year amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
July 22, 2020 – The world’s largest retailer said this week it will close all of its stores on Thanksgiving Day in part to honor their employees who have faced “a trying year” with the coronavirus pandemic. Less than a week later, Target announced it, too, would keep stores shuttered on Nov. 26.“We hope they will enjoy a special Thanksgiving Day at home with their loved ones,” Furner said in a statement. “We are certainly thankful to our people for all their efforts.
The announcement also pertains to Walmart-owned Sam’s Club warehouse stores. An announcement about store hours for the day after Thanksgiving, commonly known as “Black Friday,” one of the busiest shopping days of the year, will come later, the company said. “This year more than ever, a joyful holiday will be inseparable from a safe one, and we’re continuing to adjust our plans to deliver ease, value and the joy of the season in a way that only Target can,” Target CEO Brian Cornell. said in aThanksgiving Day had become another massive day for retail shopping as many major chains used it as an unofficial start to the Christmas shopping season.
The Thanksgiving announcement came as the company said it will provide additional cash bonuses to employees, including $300 for full-time workers and $150 for part-time or temporary employees.
