Thousands took to the streets across the Canary Islands on Saturday
The Canary Islands' tourism minister Jessica de León has urged tourists not to cancel their holidays as thousands of people joined anti-tourism protests on Saturday in Tenerife, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and La Palma.
Ms de León said: “It is still safe to visit the Canary Islands, and we are delighted to welcome you." Tourism makes up 35% of the Canaries' economy and accounts for 40% of the archipelago's jobs.
