The Warriors have the playoff-hardened veterans. The Celtics are bursting onto the Finals stage.

SAN FRANCISCO — The Celtics had lost five straight times to Golden State — home and road combined — when Isaiah Thomas led the C’s into Oracle Arena on April 21, 2016, scored 32 points, and led them out again with a win on the home floor of the defending NBA champs. From that night to now, the Celtics lead the series, 9-4, with the Warriors admittedly gutted by injury the last two seasons. The Celtics most recently won in the new Chase Center on March 16. The road team has won nine times over the course of those 13 games.Golden State, perhaps the finest offensive machine in the history of the game, is only now regrouping after a two-year, injury-infused absence from the postseason, after winning three titles between 2015 and 2018.
“No matter what adversity is put in front of us, no obstacle, no loop, we’re going to get through it, we’re going to get over it, we’re going to get around it,” Marcus Smart said of what has driven the Celtics this far. “That was just how we live our lives on the court. We really, truly believe that. We know we’re going up against a great team with the Warriors, great players, great organization. They have the track record to prove it. They know exactly what it takes. They’ve been here.
