Wiggins was criticized throughout his time in Minnesota under the weight of expectations that come with being drafted No. 1 overall. Now, he’s blossomed as a Swiss Army knife with the Warrior…
SAN FRANCISCO – Andrew Wiggins will return to Minnesota Sunday afternoon to play his fourth game at Target Center since being traded to the Warriors in early 2020. This time, however, Wiggins has some new bling in his jewelry collection: a championship ring.
At one infamous Timberwolves practice, a disgruntled Jimmy Butler reportedly yelled at his teammates, calling them “soft” among other teams while he pummeled Minnesota’s starters while playing with the reserves. Many thought one of the players catching heat was Wiggins. “I feel like in Minnesota, I was still doing a lot of good things, we were just losing,” Wiggins said. “And no matter what you do, when you’re on a losing team, no one is going to say anything good about you.
“Because he was the No. 1 overall pick, there was tremendous pressure on him. But the reality is, there’s very few players in this league who can transform a franchise, you can probably count them on one hand,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said. “And because he wasn’t that kind of player, the expectations sort of preceded the reputation and people lost sight of actually how good he was in a lot of areas.
