Minutemen headed into playoffs on five-game winning streak

Not only are Jared Dzierzgowski and Cole Aquino second-generation Washington Township football players, but both of their mothers are also graduates of the school, just like their fathers.Needless to say, they are well aware of the history of the program and the glory days it once enjoyed —and that makes them the perfect players to help restore the Minutemen’s swagger.

“We love playing at home because the atmosphere is unlike any other. That was definitely one of our goals this year.” “We talk about the tradition,” he said. “A lot of these kids haven’t experienced that but they’ve heard stories about it. It’s so important because there’s a lot of pride with our alumni and the guys who come out to watch us play. The goal when we first took over was to bring that kind of atmosphere back and to create the environment where kids want to be here and play here. You’re only as good as your players, and the kids are playing well.

“I feel like most people probably think that’s a down where you would run the ball, but this year we have a diverse set of wide receivers and we can throw the ball at any time. I think they were playing cover two, didn’t get a chance to put hands on me and slow me down and the safety got over late. Cole threw the ball in the bucket.”

“It’s been pretty smooth, I think,” Dzierzgowski said. “I can’t complain because I’ve been playing great and the team has been playing great. I was a running back until my sophomore year when I switched over to quarterback, and going back is like riding a bike: You never forget.
