A careless bus driver came within inches of knocking down a 'shaken' pedestrian after running a red light.
John McLaughlan was looking at his route timetable instead of the road and was oblivious to the man being on a pelican crossing.
The pedestrian had taken 'two steps' onto the crossing by the time McLaughlan was forced into evasive action during hours of darkness, the sheriff court was told. He pleaded guilty through lawyer Aidan Gallagher to a charge of failing of maintain proper observations, failing to obey and comply with a red traffic signal and requiring to take evasive action to avoid striking and colliding with a pedestrian.
Mr Gallagher added:"In my submission it is a momentary lapse, and in that moment thankfully nothing more serious has come of it."The company [McGill's] has a very strict policy regarding the quality and standards of driving."
