Former President Donald Trump is campaigning in Summerville, South Carolina, on Monday ahead of the second GOP debate this week, which he plans to skip.
The Republican front-runner in the 2024 presidential election will mark his third campaign visit this year to the Palmetto State, last speaking in August at the Silver Elephant Gala, an annual fundraiser for the South Carolina Republican Party.
Despite two other Republican presidential contenders having roots in South Carolina, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and Sen. Tim Scott , Trump is dominating the GOP field, according to national polls. Forty-six percent of likely Republican primary voters in South Carolina support the former president compared to 18% for Haley, per a Washington Post-Monmouth University survey.Trump is expected to speak at 3 p.m. at Sportsman Boats.
