Many of the performers delivered their short set from an outdoor venue: Carlile from a Pacific Northwest forest, Mellencamp on a makeshift stage in front of an Airstream, Matthews on the porch of a cabin, and Young from a very active farm.
“We all love you and we support your work. We want your way of life to continue and to actually flourish again. No corporate farms, real farms.” Nelson — accompanied by “the Boys,” his sons Lukas and Micah Nelson — played a set that featured “Roll Me Up and Smoke Me When I Die,” “Hands on the Wheel” and a bittersweet “On the Road Again,” where a quarantined Nelson emphatically sang, “The life I love is making music with my friends, and I can’t wait to get on the road again.”
