It comes after local online speculation about the causes of the incident - as police confirmed that an investigation into the deaths of two unrelated children was underway.

Beachgoer Kathryn Walton described seeing lifeguards and "loads of people rushing on to the beach" as part of the operation to find the tragic pair. The service said it searched the water to make sure no one else was missing and was "satisfied there are not".
