The Royal College of Nursing has announced its members are backing strike action in a row over pay - but the Prime Minister insists their demands are unaffordable.
If strikes were to go-ahead, the RCN has vowed to maintain emergency care, but NHS Confederations, which represents most NHS organisations, said operations and appointments will have to be cancelled or postponed. Industrial action is expected to be held before the end of the year at some of the UK’s biggest hospitals.What do you think about it? Do you back the nurses and other health workers? "And I think where we are now is, that the unions are asking for a 17% pay rise, and I think most people watching will recognise that clearly that’s not affordable." Meanwhile, Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer said he supports the “right” of the nurses to strike.
