After the 2019 film faced criticism for its depiction of violence and mental health, can the Joker sequel, starring Lady Gaga, distance itself from the controversy?
Co-writer and director Todd Phillips first shared the image, showing Gaga alongside Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck in what looks like a romantic yet psychotic moment. Gaga later shared the same image on Instagram with the caption ‘Folie à Deux’, which is defined as a delusion or psychosis shared by two individuals.
Gaga will reportedly be playing this universe’s version of hell-raiser Harley Quinn, though this has yet to be confirmed, and in the image we see her without Quinn’s trademark coloured hair and bold make-up. However, the question marks around her role are only adding to the suspense and anticipation.
