But, of late, the pattern has been for big movies to essentially hit their tracking dead-on.. Whether the tracking has just been more accurate in those cases or whether the needle just didn't move, I am no longer comfortable presuming that any film, even a buzzy and well-reviewed biggie, is going to substantially best its tracking predictions.
Speaking of films not topping their tracking predictions, was also pegged at around $45 million for its debut weekend but ended up with just $32m. That was a huge comedown from the $69m debut of in 2014, leading many of us to wonder if five years was too long of a wait between installments.
