Rachel Reeves confirmed the additional funding for struggling people

The government has confirmed that the Household Support Fund and Discretionary Housing Payments will be extended with an additional £1bn of funding arriving next year to help people struggling with costs. In her first ever budget last week, Chancellor Rachel Reeves confirmed the additional funding for vulnerable households to help with expenses such as food, energy and water during the ongoing cost of living crisis.

' The fund only applies to England, with the devolved governments receiving money through other means. The remainder of the additional £1 billion will be allocated through what are called Discretionary Housing Payments, which are available to anyone who claims housing benefit or the housing part of Universal Credit and who needs extra help with housing costs. The aim of these payments is to stop people from becoming homeless.
