What to watch for this week after Boris Johnson’s landslide election victory:
... [+]: Following his landslide majority, British prime minister Boris Johnson is to welcome a fresh intake of 109Conservative party lawmakers, many of whom got their jobs by winning over constituencies that have historically been held by the Labour party.
Among the new intake are Paul Howell, the new MP for Sedgefield, the former constituency of Labour prime minister Tony Blair. Kensington and Chelsea, the borough in which the Grenfell Tower fire took place in 2017, also became Tory again after being occupied by a Labour MP for two years. Johnson will also reshuffle his cabinet slightly to fill posts vacated by lawmakers who stood down. This include the Welsh secretary, and the Culture secretary. The Queen’s speech, in which the monarch formally sets out her Government's legislative agenda for Parliament, will take place on Thursday. This will be the second such speech this year, after the first was delivered on October 14 after Johnson became Prime Minister in July.
