What did Heard write in the op-ed at the center of the current case?In December 2018 — following the #MeToo movement and amid the contentious confirmation hearings for Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh — Heard wrote an op-ed in thetitled: “I spoke up against sexual violence — and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change.”
“I had the rare vantage point of seeing, in real time, how institutions protect men accused of abuse,” she wrote. The U.S. complaint, filed in the Circuit Court of Fairfax, said that, while Depp was not named in the Post article, it was clear that Heard and other media outlets reporting on the piece were talking about him. The lawsuit called her ongoing allegations of domestic abuse “categorically and demonstrably false,” and said that Depp never abused Heard.
