Shortly after his introduction, Basan met an untimely end in The Wheel of Time season 2, episode 6, titled “The Eyes of Pity.” Seconds before he could save his Aes Sedai from the fate of becoming a damane, Basan lost his life at the hands of the Seanchan.
Ryma, an Aes Sedai of the Yellow Ajah, and her warder were presented as allies to Nynaeve and Elayne in their efforts to evade the Seanchan and rescue Egwene al’Vere. The two characters risked their lives to help, with both putting up a valiant fight against Seanchan soldiers and the damane under their control. When defeat became imminent, Ryma pleaded for Basan to kill her, only for the latter to die instead.
In The Great Hunt, the second book in the series and the story season 2 is adapting, Egwene met Ryma after being captured by the Seanchan. Unlike the TV character, Ryma was already a damane on the verge of being broken by the Seanchan slavers at this time. Exactly what transpired when she was captured wasn't depicted in the book, but it being very similar to the tragedy shown in the episode – albeit without Elayne and Nynaeve present – makes sense.
What Happens To Ryma In The Wheel Of Time Books Ryma’s current predicament matching her starting point in The Great Hunt is a bad sign for her character’s future. In the book, Egwene is ultimately saved by Nynaeve and Elayne, but the same can’t be said for Ryma, who is still in the custody of the Seanchan long after the three girls leave Falme.
