Plenty of famous names have come to Watford over the years but few have been responsible for producing the type of frenzied scenes one record shop witnessed almost 30 years ago.
Excited teenagers descended on Our Price in the Harlequin Centre in their droves to witness a performance from two lads from Newcastle upon Tyne who would go on to become hugely successful as arguably Britain’s most popular TV-presenting double act. Back in 1994 though, Anthony McPartlin and Declan Donnelly were yet to be popularly known as Ant & Dec, but PJ & Duncan – the stars of children’s drama series Byker Grove who achieved chart success with Let’s Get Ready to Rhumble.A Watford Observer photographer was at the shop on July 19, 1994 to capture the excitement as the duo performed before signing dozens of autographs.
