The Tournament of Roses’ third annual Día de los Muertos art competition awards ceremony showcased the art that celebrated the season.

Flores’ piece was a finalist in the Tournament of Roses Association’s Día de los Muertos art competition. There was art, live music, Aztec dancers, crafts for kids and the building of ofrendas – those altars of offerings that speak to the traditions of Latin American culture this season — the celebration of the dead, the commemoration of their souls.
“When you look at float building, it’s all around floral, and the Día de los Muertos holiday really ties into that, just using a marigolds instead of a rose,” said Association Executive Director David Eads. “We’re excited.”
