Where to watch NASCAR and IndyCar this weekend.
Three races remain in the IndyCar season. Two are on road courses on the west coast, which makes tonight's race at Gateway the last oval race of the year. It's an enormous opportunity for Josef Newgarden, the dominant force on what the series considers short ovals since he joined Team Penske, to make his mark on the championship fight.
With Newgarden's long history of strength on these tracks, it's an even more urgent situation for fellow contenders Power, Scott Dixon, and Marcus Ericsson. All three will be back on more equal footing come the road courses that close out the season, but Gateway represents a rare opportunity to flip the script by beating someone where they're best and regaining that perceived advantage. Power, in particular, has been strong on these ovals all year.
For the full time field, this is it. The last even slightly predictable race of the 2022 regular season. Those who need a win need it here, as next weekend's race at Daytona cannot be counted on by anyone. Points are about to become irrelevant, so this is the time to make urgent win-or-lose calls.
