As powerful as Darth Vader may be in Star Wars, he pales in comparison to his son, Luke Skywalker. Conceived by midi-chlorians, Anakin Skywalker was the Chosen One, a living vergence in the Force itself. This made him one of the most powerful Jedi of all times, and he demonstrated this power countless times in the Clone Wars, fighting on the front lines.
Darth Vader's most impressive feats are seen in the Star Wars comic book event "Vader Down," in which the Sith Lord is shot down on the remote planet Vrogas Vas, and must survive an entire rebel army. "Vader Down" demonstrates Vader's raw power, as he effortlessly goes up against an entire rebel army.
Palpatine understood this; it was why he tested Darth Vader in Kemp's Dark Lords of the Sith, simply because he knew he had reduced his potential. It is, therefore, quite striking that he still considered Anakin Skywalker to be "unparalleled." Darth Vader was still tremendously powerful, even as a cyborg, and his master was deeply impressed with him.
