Duckweed is once again causing havoc on Lincolnshire’s waterways, with the river around Boston becoming so clogged that water events have been cancelled.
Thousands of fish died due to the lack of oxygen, and the “appalling smell” put people off spending time near the river. The Canal and River Trust have explained that the flow of the Witham and wind direction naturally moves debris towards Boston, naturally collecting in the stretch between the town and Anton’s Gowt.In February, the Environment Agency admitted it was still at a loss with how to tackle the growing crisis.
