Sleeping Beauty Castle has very little resemblance to the castle from 'Sleeping Beauty.'
Mickey Mouse stands outside Sleeping Beauty Castle. The building has provided a thrilling welcome to Disneyland visitors since 1955.Walt Disney considered it, but decided that Robin Hood Castle just didn't have the same ring as Sleeping Beauty Castle.
And it makes sense when you realize they were designed by two different artists who were inspired by different visions. Walt Disney Productions illustrator Eyvind Earle created the detailed castle seen in the film, taking cues from the stylish artwork found in the famous 15th century French book,"The Very Rich Hours of the Duke of Berry.
You can see a nod to this inspiration during Soarin' Around the World at Disney California Adventure park in Anaheim or at Epcot in Florida, as the actual castle is shown during part of the ride. Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany provided inspiration for the designers of Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland.Design elements for Disneyland's castle were also borrowed from a wide array of French chateaus and an important detail was taken from Notre Dame Cathedral.

The boss saw it and reportedly remarked,"Oh, I like that a lot better."Even with all its inspired towers, turrets and flying pennants, Disneyland's Sleeping Beauty Castle stands at just 77 feet tall, making it the smallest in stature of all the Disney parks in the world, and that was intentional.
