Justified: City Primeval star Timothy Olyphant explains why Quentin Tarantino didn't direct episodes of the miniseries despite being interested.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Justified: City Primeval star Timothy Olyphant has revealed the reason that Quentin Tarantino didn't direct any episodes of the new series. City Primeval, which premiered on July 18, is a sequel to the six-season FX series Justified, which was adapted from Elmore Leonard's stories about Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens .
When asked about why Quentin Tarantino backed out of his potential involvement, Olyphant explained that the idea originated when he and the director were "drinking margaritas." Although Tarantino wanted to direct episodes 4 and 7, he couldn't because "his wife was pregnant with their second baby." Read Olyphant's full quote below:
He says, “Get the f--k out,” and I said, “yeah!” He’s like… “Could I direct that?” I was like, “I don’t think it’s gonna be a problem. [laughs] I could put in a good word…” I was like, “OK,” and he said “I want to do the seventh one.” We were all very excited. And then his wife was pregnant with their second baby and that was that. [He] was like “Sorry, I can’t leave Israel when my wife’s having a child to go direct your show,” and so sadly… It was a hard one to argue... It’s a good sign for him and his kids… He’s taking fatherhood seriously.
