Now members of the Giants, LaMonte Wade Jr. and Taylor Rogers both returned to Minnesota for either only the first or second time since both were traded.
MINNEAPOLIS — A lifelong Denver Broncos fan, Taylor Rogers thought of Peyton Manning on Monday.
Before the game, the Twins honored him with a Manning-esque video on the outfield scoreboard. The feed cut to the railing of the third-base dugout, where Rogers waved to cheering fans. It was his first time back in this ballpark since being traded to San Diego on Opening Day of last season, ending his tenure with the organization that drafted him and where he spent the first six years of his big-league career.
Like Rogers, Wade was traded away from Minnesota, the organization that drafted him, in one of the biggest coups of Farhan Zaidi’s tenure . While he returned for the first time since last year, he was banged up and struggling, and the Giants were swept in three games. This year, Wade returned in full health, among the major-league leaders in on-base percentage .
Their first two nights here, Wade has accompanied Nick Gordon back to his place. Gordon, who recently fractured his leg, roomed with Wade throughout their entire minor-league careers, and the pair were preparing their spring training digs in Fort Myers when Wade received the call from Thad Levine that he’d been traded to San Francisco.
