Why the new Audi A7 might make you rethink buying that SUV:
While the raked roofline is certainly attractive, it unfortunately tends to sacrifice some rear headroom, and can make entering and exiting the back seat somewhat difficult for taller passengers. Still, if a horizontal roofline and tall cargo hold are critical shopping points, feel free to join the crossover crowd.
The centerpiece of the A7’s comely cabin, however, is a pair of stacked high-definition touch-screen displays for the car’s climate control and “MMI” infotainment systems at the center of the dashboard. This replaces the former version’s system that employed a single screen, a rotary dial, some buttons, and a laptop computer-like touchpad. The screens feature both haptic and acoustic feedback when engaged, and can be used to enter navigation destinations via fingertip handwriting recognition.
While some other midsize luxury cars, most notably the BMW M550i, Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, and the AMG-tuned Mercedes-Benz E-Class models may be quicker, the 2019 Audi A7 affords ample acceleration. Its turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine produces a smooth and potent 335 horsepower with 369 pound-feet of torque that Audi says enables a 0-60 mph in a respectable 5.2 seconds.
Our car came with the optional 20-inch wheels and tires, with 19-inch rims and rubber coming standard and 21-inchers also available. The A7’s performance can be further enhanced with a lowered sport suspension, adaptive damping, and an all-wheel steering system.
