Jennifer Uygur is closing her family's Oak Cliff restaurant Lucia for 10 days in July so employees can get an extended break. It's not common among restaurants in Dallas-Fort Worth, but some restaurateurs are doing it. “We’ve always tried to base our business on things we feel are good,” Uygur says. “It’s the same reason why we are never open Christmas Eve. We are never open Christmas Day. It’s one of those quality-of-life things we feel is important.

Her motivation is less about slow sales, which don’t really happen at a teeny restaurant with nine tables that’s consistently been called The Uygurs plan to take their first trip on an airplane since January 2020 — and they’re counting down the days.in East Dallas is another restaurant that hosts a “summer vacation” for its employees every year. Owners Kristen and Mitch Kauffman are closing the restaurant from July 2-7, reopening for dinner service on July 8.inside the historic Adolphus hotel, staffers are off from June 27 through July 5. They do this twice a year: for one week in the summer and one after the holidays.
