Kings Road in the town is connected to Queens Road, which is also connected to Castle Gate
For those living in Newark or regularly driving through the market town, you may have noticed something unusual about some of its street names. Many of the roads in the town actually relate to each other, and have historical links that you might not spot at first glance.
Victoria Street is one of the main roads in the town, which turns into Farndon Road before reaching the A46 - or it turns into Portland Street when travelling in the other direction. However, running parallel to the road is Albert Street, signifying Queen Victoria and her husband Prince Albert. The Queen ruled the country though many changes, including the expansion of British territory as well as the industrial revolution. Connecting these two streets together are further nods to history with Crown Street and Prince's Street. Also paying homage to the monarchy is Elizabeth Road, which is connected to Churchill Drive and Winston Court, in respect to the Prime Minister Winston Churchill and Queen Elizabeth who both ruled during the second world war and were said to have been friends.
Connected to Elizabeth Road is Eton Avenue, but a short distance from the junction this turns into Windsor Avenue. This also connects to Windsor Road, also paying a nod to the royal family as they are the House of Windsor. Similarly, . Whereas on the other side of the town there is Crown Street, which connects to Edward Avenue, symbolising the former King Edward who ruled from 1901 to 1910.
