ARLINGTON – Question: how do you describe USC quarterback Caleb Williams, the freshly crowned Heisman Trophy winner? “We call him Houdini,” said Trojans...
The improvement goes back to spring practice, the unofficial beginning of a new season.
There are multiple reasons why. Hampton, according to his players, has put a major emphasis on tackling. The Tulane defense does a tackling circuit every practice. And it’s helped elevate the Tulane defense, which has not only tackled better, but allowed less explosive plays so far this season. Tulane allowed 188 plays of 10-plus yards in 12 games last season. The Green Wave has allowed 134 in 13 games so far this season. They’ve also allowed half the number of 40-plus-yard plays they did last season.
“It’s our angles and how do you move?” explained Tulane safety Macon Clark. “It’s how they move with the ball, so we have to take the correct angles and make a tackle.”
