Causley was handed a life sentence in 1996
Murderer Russell Causley is set to be freed from prison after the Government decided not to challenge the decision. Causley murdered his wife, Carole Packman, more than 35 years ago and has never revealed where he hid her body.

“We know this will be incredibly difficult for Carole Packman’s family, but Russell Causley will be under close supervision for the rest of his life and can be recalled to prison if he breaches the strict conditions of his release. Our parole reforms will stand up for the rights of victims in cases like this, making public safety the overriding factor in parole decisions and adding a ministerial veto on release of the most serious offenders.
