Two fires are tearing through Santa Rosa and Walton counties, which are between the cities of Pensacola and Panama City Beach.
In Santa Rosa County, the Five Mile Swamp Fire -- spurred by high winds and low humidity -- has burned about 2,000 acres east of Avalon Beach since it began Monday and destroyed"numerous structures," the state agriculture department said.A number of rural homes were in or near the burning area outlined by a map from the state's forest service. The fire was burning on either side of Interstate 10. It's not immediately clear how many, if any, homes were damaged.
