As the economy continues to slide, there is a proposal for a second coronavirus stimulus, but its passage doesn't look likely in the near-term.

The $3-trillion proposal, which the GOP says is too costly, would provide payments to state and local governments, and $1,200 checks to individuals.

“It was clear from the very beginning of this pandemic that its tragic consequences and scope and impact on the American people and the global community [meant] that robust response was essential,” House Majority LeaderIf passed, the Heroes Act would go to the Senate. There it would almost certainly face opposition from Republicans, who control that chamber of Congress. Without bipartisan support, passage of additional federal relief could be weeks away.

Republicans have different priorities. Among them is protecting healthcare companies and employers from lawsuits by patients, workers and customers who are exposed to COVID-19. They have not yet released a plan, but McConnell said Tuesday that it will include enhanced medical malpractice protections for healthcare providers on COVID-19 cases.
