Willow series star Annabelle Davis, daughter of Warwick Davis, has shared a heartfelt response to the show’s reported cancellation on Disney+. Making its streaming debut late last year, the Willow series served as a direct sequel to the 1998 fantasy film of the same, picking up some 20 years after the defeat of the evil Queen Bavmorda.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Now, Davis, who appeared alongside her father as Willow’s daughter Mims Ufgood, has taken to social media to share her thoughts on the move in a heatfelt thread. Suggesting that she misses her character and the rest of the show’s cast already, Davis refuses to believe the series' cancellation will be the end of the Willow story. Suggesting there are “so many more stories to tell,” the actor appears to hold out hope that property may find its way back to the screen at some point in the future.
The question Disney’s latest move evokes, however, is whether audiences are likely to see any more content set with the magical world of Willow. Despite resonating well with critics and attracting high viewership numbers, Kasdan’s Willow series did not manage to recapture the widespread cultural impact of the original film. While the showrunner already had plans for future seasons, at this stage, it does not seem likely that Lucasfilm will be planning to revisit them anytime soon.
Of course, as Davis points out, it took some 30 plus years for Lucasfilm to begin work on the sequel series, so perhaps with enough time audiences may finally get to see Willow’s second triumphant return. The main concern, however, is whether Warwick Davis, who is the undisputed heart and soul of the franchise, will be able to be involved. In the meantime, audience members will be able to revisit both the original film and Willow season 1 on Disney+.
