A 75-year-old New York woman died in the crash, officials said.
The passenger of a car died Sunday afternoon after a tire dislodged from an SUV and crashed into the car’s windshield on the New Jersey Turnpike, authorities said.
An Acura MDX was driving south on the inner roadway of the highway in East Windsor at 4:53 p.m. when its left front wheel somehow fell off, according to a statement from the New Jersey State Police. The wheel then traveled over the center divider, went into the northbound inner roadway and hit the front windshield of an Acura RDX, police said. The impact caused fatal injuries to 75-year-old Susan Dagrosa, of Port Jefferson, New York, who was sitting in the vehicle’s front passenger seat, authorities said. The driver of the RDX was not injured.
No other information was released as the crash remained under investigation by the state police Monday evening.
