The casualty, whose name has not been released, was walking on the pier when she suddenly collapsed to the floor beneath them.
A woman was left battered and bruised after she fell through a section of Central Pier in Blackpool, sparking fears for her life.
The emergency services, including the police, ambulance teams and fire brigade, were quick to respond to the alarming situation at about 4:30pm this afternoon. As medical staff attended to the injured woman, the pier was promptly evacuated and cordoned off. Adding to the horror he recounted: "A lady ploughed to the floor, smashing through the Central Pier. I was absolutely terrified... I thought she was dead."
Additional support came from specialist beach patrol units as they confronted the aftermath of the accident, which left an ominous hole in the wooden structure. The severity of the woman's condition has yet to be established.
