A woman's body has been found in the River Soar, prompting police to launch an investigation. Officers were called to the small hamlet of Zouch, on the between Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire near Loughborough, on the afternoon of Sunday, April 28.
The police say the woman's body was recovered from the River Soar that flows around the hamlet. Her death is currently being treated as unexplained, although at this stage, it is not considered suspicious. A local who wished to remain anonymous reported to LeicestershireLive that the river had risen due to heavy rain on Sunday night. According to their account, the scene was attended by ten police cars, dive teams, forensic specialists, and fire rescue crews.They also mentioned that the Zouch floodgate was lowered to control the water flow in the vicinity.
"The body of a woman was sadly later recovered from the water. The cause of the woman's death is currently being treated as unexplained but is not believed to be suspicious at this stage. "Formal identification has not yet taken place and our enquiries remain ongoing. Officers are in contact with HM Coroner."
